What is Luthando App?

A South African language-learning platform for children, parents and adult learners: structured lessons, live classes with vetted educators, bedtime stories, videos and games — across South Africa's official languages plus international African languages. Luthando means love in isiZulu and isiXhosa.

Which languages can we learn?

isiZulu, isiXhosa, Sepedi, isiNdebele, siSwati, Sesotho, Setswana, Tshivenda, Xitsonga, Afrikaans and English, plus Swahili, Shona, Lingala, French and Portuguese (marked NEW). See all languages.

What ages is it for?

Ages 3 to adult. Little ones start in the Early Childhood track with Letters & Sounds; school-age children follow the Foundation Phase track; adult learners have a first-class path of their own.

How do live classes work?

Real-time video classes with vetted educators, inside the app — no Zoom account needed. Browse educators, view availability, and book an Open Class (from 10 learners), a Group Class (5–9), or One-on-One tutoring. See how it works.

What does it cost?

The platform subscription is R90/month and includes all lessons, stories, games and videos, plus one free Open Class lesson. Group Classes are R160 per learner per lesson and One-on-One is R200 per lesson, with 10-pack savings. Full pricing.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — download the app and start free. You only pay when you choose a subscription.

How do payments work?

Securely through Paystack. Top up lesson credits in your in-app wallet and see a full ledger of every transaction. Vouchers and coupon codes are supported.

My child's school mentioned a discount — how does that work?

Learners at affiliated schools save up to 50%. Enter your school's affiliation code in the app. If your school isn't affiliated yet, point them to the schools page — registering is free.

Is Luthando App safe for children?

Yes. Every social feature starts off by default for child accounts, children can only chat with guardian-approved contacts, personal information is automatically filtered, all Playroom videos are reviewed before publishing, and every educator is vetted. Parents manage everything from the Safety & Controls screen. Read how we keep children safe.

Can I teach on Luthando App?

If you're a qualified language educator, yes — you set your availability, and Luthando App handles bookings, video, your learner roster and payouts. Apply to teach.

How do I cancel?

Anytime, from the parent dashboard in the app. Your access runs to the end of the period you've paid for.
